Overview of the silos that were worked on.
Water was leaking into the cement storage silos causing considerable problems.
Here is a pile of cement debris that had hardened over time with rain.
Several cracks had formed where water could seep in.
Jackhammers were used to clear off the roof of its layer of cement.
All penetrations and joints were cleared off first.
Jack hammering with scrapper plates.
Saftey harnesses were used to clean the areas outside of the protective railing.
The plate lasted only an hour before we had to replace the blade. The shaft would last 3 hours.
Our scraping machine saved a lot of jack hammer shafts.
All of the boxes including the metal trim were scraped down to get a clean seal.
A special rubber caulking was sealed where each penetration met the roof deck.
Before sealing the box, we used a special primer to make the rubberized mastic stick
Each penetration received two layers of polyester and rubberized mastic.
Each large crack was cleaned
Filled with a hard sealing cement that we could feather to the roof deck
After the large cement cracks were filled, the roof was primed, a slip-sheet installed wide enough for the crack and then a bitiulithane roof sheet was installed over that.
The deck was primed, mastic was applied and then the metal was set in the mastic. Holes were drilled into the 20 gauge metal and roof deck. Lead nails attached the metal to the deck.
All penetrations, boxes, cracks and joints were sealed before we installed the roof.
This roof had a lot of cracks.
Each metal joint was sealed with polyester and rubberized mastic.
2 layers of polyester and rubberized mastic sealed where the metal and the roof met
After all the metal was sealed with the rubberized mastic the roof was primed to prepare it to receive the new roof.
Installing 2 more layers of polyester and emulsion on top of the already sealed metal.
After the perimter and all boxes and flashings had been sealed with polyester and emulsion, it was time to seal the whole roof.
Rubbing the sheet in to get a tight bond.
After the polyester was applied, the entire roof received a coating of emulsion and chopped fiberglass
The finished waterproofed deck.
The 1st coat of elastomeric.
The 2nd layer of coating being applied.
The finished roof with 3 coats applied.
